I suffered from headaches for almost 10 years and tried every remedy known to man to ease the pain: medications, massages, biofeedback and even considered physical therapy at one point. Each therapy worked temporarily, so I continued to suffer on a daily basis. Eventually, the pain migrated into my neck and shoulders, and I never knew if I was going to wake up almost immobile due to the pain and stiffness. I made appointments with several different “experts;” from chiropractors to a holistic approach known as Rolfing, with no permanent success. I was told that headaches are endemic in our culture due to every day stressors and that I was going to have to learn to “live with it.” I contacted Dr. Arthur Chal to discuss some esthetic and reconstructive dentistry, and by happenstance, informed him of head, neck and shoulder pain that I suffered from on a daily basis. After evaluating my case, he sent me to have an MRI completed. After several questions, measuring of my jaw, and review of the MRI, Dr. Chal informed me that I suffered from Temporomandibular Disorder (TMD). Dr. Chal told me that TMD is probably the least understood and most miss-diagnosed of all health problems. There are two primary reasons why TMD headaches are so commonly undiagnosed or miss-diagnosed: the symptoms can be almost exactly the same as either the sinus headache or the tension headache. The second reason TMD headaches are commonly undiagnosed or miss-diagnosed is that physicians are almost totally untrained regarding diagnosis and treatment of TMD, as it falls under the field of dentistry. Unfortunately, most dentists are poorly trained or not trained at all in TMD, and although some dentists recognize TMD problems, they are unable to accurately identify the source of the problem. Their best effort to manage the problem is to use a therapy that is directed solely toward the symptoms, and does absolutely nothing to resolve the underlying cause of the problem. Dr. Chal suggested, in conjunction with my reconstructive dentistry, to invest in a mouth orthotic, as I tend to clench my jaw throughout the day and tap and grind my teeth at night. One month into wearing the mouth orthotic, my headaches are gone! Something else I discovered is that my jaw no longer hurts; it became such a routine part of my life that I never even noticed I was in pain. The orthotic fits perfectly – I don’t spit it out at night as I did other mouth guards – and Dr. Chal and his assistant, Lisa, continually monitor the fit. Dr. Chal is an absolutely phenomenal dentist and a true expert in the field of TMD and Esthetic and Reconstructive Dentistry. I highly recommend you contact Dr. Chal for all your dentistry needs, as he has a team of experts, who compliment his area of expertise. With them you will no doubt have a happy and healthy mouth and smile.

Dr. Chal clearly explained what needed to happen to successfully treat my TMJ problems. His diagnostic protocol is extremely comprehensive. My jaw condition was worse than I had anticipated but my treatment has progressed very rapidly and I am pain-free after a couple of months of treatment. The teeth cleaning done by the doctor and his assistant was literally the easiest, fastest, most painless I've ever had. I would highly recommend this office for any dental or TMJ problems, especially the more complicated and intricate. Very professional people.

I came to Dr. Chal to have my front tooth's 32 year old crown replaced. From start to finish I was treated with respect. And great care was taken to calm my nerves through each phase. My crown is complete and looks wonderful, although pricey it was worth it.

September 29, 2013 I have been a patient of Dr. Chal’s for 18 years. He deserves 100 stars for his exceptional skills and the rare talent of integrating the leading edge of science, top quality dental products, and the art of complex dentistry. He is not only the best dentist in Arizona he is one of the few top dentists in the country. My dentist in Illinois referred me to Dr. Chal when I moved to Arizona. He told me I would not find anyone better, and he was right. Most recently, I needed urgent dental work. I called the office on Thursday explaining that I was going to fly on the following Monday but was experiencing pain in my ear and at the gum line. Without question, Lisa, his assistant, and Dr. Chal scheduled me for the next morning and spent several hours taking care of me. The day they scheduled me was also their day off. I was most grateful for their going the extra mile for me, but as Dr. Chal said to me as I was leaving his office, “You are part of the family.” If you want your dental health to be as important as the rest of your health and well-being, please contact Dr. Chal. If you want your crowns to look both real and beautiful, please contact Dr. Chal. Patricia Raya, Ph.D.

After moving from Iowa to Phoenix, I needed to find a new dentist. I know that for many finding a new a dentist can be quite a daunting experience, but fortunately Dr. Chal was recommended to me by a close family friend who has been living in Phoenix for close to 30 years and has been a patient of Dr. Chal for a large chunk of that time. As it turns out, I needed Dr. Chal far more than I know: it just so happens that I had TMJ somewhere between stage 1 and stage 2, and I was headed down a path that would have seen an entirely new set of teeth by my late 40s or 50s...! This is currently being "fixed!" Perhaps my favorite thing about Dr. Chal, however, is that he's right on schedule 99.9% of the time, and I've never waited more than a couple of minutes to be seen. In fact, normally I walk in and I'm called back virtually right away. In all honesty, and I never thought I'd be saying this about a dentist, I couldn't be happier with my decision to see Dr. Chal!
