(I just tried to post this review & it didn't show up, so if it ends up on here twice, I apologize!) I was checking this site for reviews on my dentist, but thought to see if Dr. Shaw, who my children and nephews see, had any new reviews. While I'm here, I'd like to let everyone know how WONDERFUL Dr. Shaw is! She is amazing, especially when your child needs something scary, like a filling. Her employees are friendly too, in the front and in the back, as well as over the phone. I saw a review complaining that Dr. Shaw incorrectly charged for floride for a 2 year old. I've got news for you. If you take your children to a dentist who says your 2 year old is too young for floride, it's time to go to Dr. Shaw! My children all received floride treatments at that age. If you look at their website (rachelleshaw.com) you'll see that it isn't uncommon for a 2 year old to have cavities, so why shouldn't they have floride done?? The site also tells which insurance is taken and which isnt, so if your insurance wont cover Dr. Shaw, you really have no one to blame but yourself. Silly, silly mom! ;) THANK YOU DR SHAW! YOU'RE THE BEST!!! I almost forgot - my son wants to add that he loves all the games, especially the ones in the rocket ship

I went twice with my toddler. She billed the insurance for flouride on a 2 yr old! and she wants me to pay for it! She is so expensive, even with insurance I ended up paying a lot for a routine bi-annual check-up which normally is free with insurance. Both times I waited well over an hour. She has no respect for the patients time. I even had to wait in the little dentist room with the 2yr old for over an hour! If you do go, expect to spend at least 2.5 hours there! That is why she has those games out front! And her one hygenist is mean. The other one was nice, but I seriously felt ill with the first one. She berated everything, and my child has perfectly healthy teeth, but yet I was told he will get cavities because he drinks fluids besides water!

My daughter saw Dr. Rachelle Shaw for the first time today. It was a success! She is 4 and I had taken her to 2 other dentists and she wouldnt let them even look at her teeth. Dr. Shaws calm and gentle manner with my daughter was exactly what she needed. Dr. Shaw showed me everything as she explained what my daughter needed. I appreciate that was she talked kindly to my daughter first and then showed me after. What a relief! My daughter cant wait to go back. Were so glad we tried Dr. Shaw!

I too was a little nervous about Dr. Shaw's belief that my child would do fine without me during treatment. However, Dr. Shaw does encourage parents to be present during all check-ups. When we went in for a filling, she had the parents "relax in the waiting room" and took all of the children back together. She told me that the separation allows the child and the staff to establish trust and better communication, which leads to a positive experience for the child. I was still a little doubtful, but when my child came out after the filling, he gave me a thumbs up and said a cheery goodbye to the assistant. Everything went fine, just like Dr. Shaw had assured me!

I have been taking my children to Dr. Shaw for 12 years and have never had a bad experience. I have a fifteen year old who started seeing Dr. Shaw when he was three. I also have twin two year olds who had their first visits at age one. Dr. Shaw is very experienced, (about 30 years!) and really knows her stuff. She is the perfect dentist because she is caring and patient. When one of my two year olds needed a filling, I wasn't sure he would sit still long enough for Dr. Shaw to perform the treatment, but he actually did completely fine and even left with a smile on his face, just like Dr. Shaw and her staff had assured me. I recommend Dr. Shaw to every parent I know. Her assistants and front-office staff are also very friendly and compassionate. They understand that parents can be fearful about their children's dental treatment and always do their best to ease their fears. If anyone out there is having doubts about this dentist, I think they should call and set up at least an exam for their child. After meeting Dr. Shaw and seeing the fun office set-up, they will know they have made a wise choice in the dental care for their child. Even my two year olds love Dr. Shaw!

I will NEVER recommend Dr. Shaw for any chid. My childs experiance with her still affects him today. Dr. Shaw had done surgery on him, and two months later his cap had slip off. I had call to have it fix and Dr. Shaw had refused to see my son and fix his tooth because my insurance hadn't paid (which i have no control over). Two Months later my Insurance paid her so then she was willing to see us. When we were in the room waiting for her to call him to the back (which us parents aren't allowed) I asked to speak to Dr. Shaw to ask if the cap was a defect or if this is something that happens often, she walks in the rooms and tell me DO YOU WANT THIS DONE OR NOT, i couldn't believe what i was hearing, so because i questioned her she told her office manager to make me pay first and then if my insurance covered this treatment that they could reinburse me. I was so upset i was in tears my son was in tears,

I add this review only to forewarn other mothers in my situation who may not be prepared for dr. shaw's policies on breastfeeding. I took my 18-month-old today to have her teeth cleaned and upon discovering a cavity, I was told that I had to stop breastfeeding immediately and that doing so past 1 year of age was only harming my child (in the dental sense, anyway). I was also told that although she needed a filling, she wouldn't fill it until I stopped breastfeeding because "it will just fall out." I know that these aren't altogether unheard of sentiments in dentists these days but anyone who is at all interested in what is best for their child's health and who has done any research knows that breastfeeding has been shown to NOT cause cavities and has been shown in research over and over again to be one of the healthiest things you can do for your child (especially beyond 1 year and until it's still mutually desirable). I would urge anyone who is still breastfeeding their children beyond 1 year of age to avoid seeing dr. shaw as it will only serve to confuse and humiliate you. She really is a very nice and gentle woman, just one with some outdated ideas. I won't be returning.

Dr. Shaw and her staff are very pleasant to work with. They strive to reduce the anxiety of the children. As a rule, they do not allow the parents to go back with the kids for cleanings or procedures, as they believe this makes it easier for the children. Even my anxious 7 year old did fine! The cost is a bit higher than some dentists, I believe, but they take most insurance plans. Overall I've been pleased with the care my children have received there.

Actually, Dr. Rachelle Shaw is a children's dentist - not an orthodontist like this website suggests! And, yes, she is AWESOME! Everyone in her office is extremely friendly, professional, and helpful every time that I go in. :)
