Chose Dr. Shah because listed on BC/BS Medicare. First visit, Waited 2 hrs in tiny room. Then waited more in treatment room. Expected x-rays and cleaning, finally agreed to major gum treatments, cleaning, xrays. Final bill /2 visits: over $700. I noted to receptionist that $58 was refundable to me with BC/BS. Took all my insurance info, never told me Dr. Shah is no longer a BC/BS provider. Had to argue with BC/BS, but they agreed in my favor. Sent Dr. Shah my $58, refuses to reimburse me. Receptionist screamed at me, hung up--yet they called me to come in for a follow up appointment. To have such a front office low-class employee, to not reimburse a senior patient $58 after taking $700 is despicable. A patient's time is as valuable as the provider's.

About Front Desk: Totally unprofessional. Careless in not advising patient re insurance provider removal from BC/BS. Ugly screaming on the telephone. Sloppy appearance.

About Hygienist: Treatment employees were professional.

I am extremely concerned about the quality of care from this dentist and whether she railroads vulnerable people into unnecessary procedures. I rarely have had cavities in my life and went for a routine cleaning. After barely looking into my mouth, Dr. Shah pronounced that I had FIVE! Where on the X-ray are they? Not visible. She pointed to some stains on my back teeth. There! Cavities! If you don't have fillings you will need root canal! I let her do two "emergengy" fillings. She was very rough. The cleaning, supposed to cost $25 on my health plan, turned into $169 because she turned on the Cavitron - a normal part of any cleaning - and called it "special gum cleaning." The sticky film on the unhygenic chair clung to my calves and remained stuck to my skin even when I got up. They handed me a bill for nearly $600. I went home in tears, downloaded the rate schedule, and found I had been overcharged (the office issued a $120 refund). After seeking a 2nd opinion from another dentist on whether I really needed more dental work, he took his own X-ray and examined my teeth: NO cavities, NO fillings needed, unlikely any were needed in the first place. "What kind of car does she drive?" he asked. Be warned.

Overall a great experience. I only had about a two week wait to get an initial appointment and my wait time in the office was less than 10 minutes. The receptionist was lovely and efficient. I went in and Dr. Shah got a lot done in a short amount of time (Full set of X-rays, repaired a broken tooth, full cleaning) I appreciate not getting multiple appointments for every procedure. Nice chair side manner: professional, efficient, a good blend of relationship building without being overly chatty or disengaged. She was upfront about my options and was completely trasparent about the costs (in line with my insurance quotes) She handed me the print out of procedures and costs (which I'd say about low to average for NYC.) The first dentist I've been to in a number of years that I didn't need to return to within a week to have a filling filed down.
