Malvin is the worst dentist I've ever had. He is rude, condescending, and last but not least very incompetent. Four years ago, I had dental work done from him. I was so not pleased with the work he had done and had decided to never go back. Once a cap is put on a tooth, the tooth should not hurt. Both of mine hurt and were causing discomfort. Recently, one of the cups has given me problems - it doesn't seem or feel infected however the pain is excruciating. I went to a new doctor, who was happy to take me in however, my insurance had Malvin as the provider. So that I didn't have to wait that long since my tooth needed IMMEDIATE care, I called Malvin's office and talked to Diane, who by the way thinks she is more a secretary and treats patients rudely at times. She said that she doesn't know if they can take me because I haven't seen them in four years although I figure out in their system. Really Diane???? Should it matter how long ago I was there if I tell you I need immediate care because the cap you guys put on me is terribly done and is causing pain and problems? She put Malvin on the phone so that I could just hear him say no he could not see me. He didn't even bother to ask what was wrong with the work he had done!!!!!!

Dr. Malvin is simply the best dentist I have ever had since I first needed adult dental car 27 years ago. He has a wonderful sense of humor and maintains a professional yet relaxing atmosphere that starts at the front desk and includes everyone else who works there. It doesn't hurt at all that there is typically comfortable, familiar music playing. Last visit it was The Beatles. My teeth have had a lot of work over the years, and Dr. Malvin has had to navigate around or work with a lot of issues I brought into the door with me. He always makes a clear analysis of each situation and provides me the information I need to make good choices. No guilt. Just information, support, and service. During procedures, Dr. Malvin is clearly on top of what is going on with alert, responsive assistants and a very deliberate but PATIENT-CENTERED manner about what he is doing. If something is going to pinch, I get told first. And compared to other dentists, pain is a MUCH smaller part of the experience for me with Dr. Malvin. The work he has done for me has held up very well, and I have sent many friends to this dentist and haven't had a single complaint.

About Hygienist: Incredible! I have actually seen multiple hygienists with this dentist, and the quality has been consistent. Dr. Malvin is clearly selecting professionals who are comfortable interacting with people and thorough in doing their tasks. I've always found the hygienists here to be personable and attentive. They've shown the greatest care in keeping me and the instruments clean as the work gets done, and they've shown plenty of knowledge when I ask questions.

This dentist claimed that my insurance does not cover composite. I just discovered that they do, but this is after the fact - after he talked me into paying him more for the "difference" between composite and amalgam. I looked into my insurance, he claimed amalgam with them, and went ahead and charged me the "difference". I think this is actually called "balance billing", usually to charge patients extra's over the amount the insurance company agree to pay. In this case, he did not even claim the right procedure.

I had my wisdom teeth removed and some peridontal treatment done over the last few months. The ease and success of both procedures are completely amazing. Pain free wisdom teeth extraction? It doesn't get much better than that. Malvin, his hygenist & receptionist are all relaxed, helpful, incredibly accomidating and really tuned in to any problems/anxieties I have. I am talking them up all over town!

About Hygienist: Fantatsic! Really knowledgable, patient, and caring. Gentle, thorough and definitely in the right job!

I live in Imperial Beach, CA and fly to Pittsburgh to get my teeth worked on and my eyes checked. Dr. Mark takes very good yearly care of me and knows that if extensive work would have to be done, he'll find some one here in CA to help me out. As a former throat cancer carrier, the work that goes into my month is very critical to the long term 'keeping' of my teeth. Between the recommended care by my oncologist, Dr. Mark pays close attention to any anomalies as he has become the first line of defense. It helps that he rides a motor cycle and we can talk bikes and cars while in the chair. His staff is good natured and up-beat and I look forward to my yearly visit to his office.
