I love this dentist, he makes my visits enjoyable even when their not. I live in Pinole and drive to SF just for Dr. Cox. The staff Kira and Kelly are very friendly and patient.

I've been a patient of Dr. Cox for over a decade, and initially, I was very happy with his care and service. Over the last few years, though, I regret to say that my experience has been less satisfactory. I have had a number of routine fillings, several crowns, and cleanings done. The quality of dental work was exceptional at first. However, my concerns now center on several less positive experiences. The Dr. is routinely an hour behind schedule, then appears distracted when he sees me, and I've had to ask obvious questions or remind him to check my X-rays. I've been getting the feeling that I'm being pressured or manipulated to get work done, and billing procedures have always been problematic at this office. Furthermore, this office is relatively expensive. I once thought the service here was worth the premium, but now, regrettably, I'm a bit worried about the quality of overall care and think it's time to move on.

About Hygienist: The hygeinists and assistants at this office have been top-notch in my experience.

WARNING - I do NOT recommend Dr. Cox!!!!! I went to him a few years ago for some routine cavity/crown work. He kept pinching my lip against my teeth as he was working, and it hurt, so I kept flinching, and finally spoke up ("ouch, can I move my lop out of the way", or words to that effect). Dr. Cox got EXTREMELY angry, stood up, and said "I can't work like this." He then WALKED OUT of the treatment room. The dental assistant looked at me apologetically. She did not even appear shocked that he just abandoned a patient in the middle of a procedure. I couldn't believe it. He came back in the room about 2 minutes later, after he had apparently "cooled off." At this point I was frightened - I had a giant hole in my tooth and needed him to finish the procedure, but at the same time, I wanted to get the hell out of there. Anyway I basically apologized for complaining to get him to patch the huge hole he had just drilled in my tooth. Needless to say, I NEVER went back to him. I even contemplated filing a complaint with the dentistry board, but things got busy at work and I didn't bother. I have never had a dentist get angry at complaints of pain. Dr. Cox is by far the worst dentist I have even seen.

Everything was essentially fine with my experience regarding quality, but I never knew who would be my dentist at any given appointment. Dr. Cox employs several other dentists in the practice. Other than for the initial consultation, I seldom saw Dr. Cox again.

I just had a simple check up and cleaning today. It was just ok and so-so..i mean, my previous dentist in east bay had more advance dental tech, like digital x-ray (instead of old traditional film) to reduce radiation exposure and ultrasonic wave cleaning (less pain)..the office itself is kinda cold, i was a bit freezing inside, and there's no music or tv to watch while they're working ( my previous dentist had these options to make me relax ) plus the seat is not comfie and looks old. But he's very clear in informing me on the procedure need to be done, and this is a plus point. I'm sure he's very experienced and knowledgable, but I'm just not very comfie with the overall facility. Oya, he didn't do the cleaning, another staff did it, and she did it rather fast, and I wonder whether its thoroughly clean...my previous dentist did it longer, and very thorough, and i felt so clean afterward..or maybe my teeth didn't need much cleaning today? :)

no pain during work--a few hours after i did get some awful shooting pains but i might just have sensitive teeth. by next day all seemed well and no complaints since then. very friendly office, but the doctor is not terribly professional in the sense that he runs a bit late, is very focused on music. but i actually don't mind this--he makes it a very comfortable atmosphere.

great chair-side humor, and the staff was great at explaining the procedures & easing pre-treatment anxiety.
