While in NY on business, I experienced severe tooth pain, and consulted a list of Delta Dental providers - which is the insurance I carry. Dr. Simmons office was nearby, and the only office able to see me on short notice. Dr. Simmons was pleasant and appeared knowledgeable. However, he misdiagnosed my problem, and was not able to provide any lasting benefit.
Far worse, however, I was asked to pay the FULL AMOUNT before I left, even though (I later learned) this is forbidden by Delta Dental. I was explicitly told that when my insurance paid, I would be refunded the full or partial amount. Upon subsequently receiving the Explanation of Benefits, I discovered that they had erroneously billed Delta Dental, and had overbilled me over $200! I called Dr. Simmons office to speak with the billing office, and was told they would get back to me. They never did, and did not return any of my subsequent calls. I've now filed a claim with Delta Dental, and am awaiting reimbursement.
A terrible way to run a dental office!!
