I saw Dr Melrod at the reccomendation of my dentist. My experience was the worst I have ever had in my life. Dr Melrod attempted to do a root canal , and charged me the full price for only completing 1/4 of the job. After three tries, numerous injections of novocaine - he could not complete the root canal, charged me $1500 and told me to come back later to finish the job - I told him I was going to Los Angeles for a week and was it safe to fly. He said it was. On the plane, I was in so much pain - I went to another dentist in Los Angeles who easily and successfully did the root canal. Dr Melrod did not refund my money. Eight years later, I was telling my new endodontist about my experience without mentioning names and he said "Was it Melrod?" Apparently, Dr. Melrod has a very bad reputation among dentists in DC. Words of caution for anyone going - BEWARE and don't pay in advance.

Dr. Melrod performed several root canals for me including a "double" root canal. I would recommend him without hesitation and have several times. Now that I have dental insurance, I regret that Dr. Melrod does not accept this insurance. However, he provided a complementary emergency consultation regarding my options regarding two adjacent root canals that he performed that subsequently became infected more than ten years later. He even returned my call while he was on vacation! Pain was minimal, and covered by maximizing Ibuprofen; however, I have learned that oral surgery does require a post-operative recovery time even if there is no pain. I recommend that anyone having a root canal limit driving and decisions for at least 24 hours. The office staff is good, but are accustomed to receiving payment in full upon treatment. The reception area is small and windowless, but the treatment rooms are bright with natural light.

Dr. Melrod is a treasure-- he is gentle and quick (full root canal in 1/2 hour and I actually dozed off during it!). I particularly like that he explains everything as he goes along so you know just what to expect. I would recommend him unhesitatingly to anyone.

Dr. Melrod was gentle, understanding, compassionate & PROFESSIONAL. I had zero pain & no anxiety. I am one of those people who have terrible anxiety about dentists. He was amazingly professional & he used the most recent technology. He made me feel confident I was in the best hands. I would recommend him over any dentist I have EVER had.
