Dr. Stakem is great. However, his office manager is Fleming Island is extremely rude and unprofessional. When I arrived for surgery, she told me there might be an issue with my insurance, which I realize is her job. However, I was already anxious about having anesthesia and our engagement was so wildly inappropriate I almost walked out. When I asked her for a few minutes to calm down she told me I was acting like a little child. She raised her voice and talked over me in front of other patients in the waiting room. It was a humiliating experience that went on for over 10 minutes. She was so confrontational and all of this came from a mistake that her office made. I am still in shock with the way she dealt with me. I have never been spoken to like that before. My 70 year old aunt who was driving me for my procedure said she's never seen anything like it. I would highly discourage anyone from going to this practice as long as she is employed there.

When I went to Dr. Stakem for my sons evaluation for wisdon teeth surgery. My experience with the bussiness dept. was terriable. First, there policy is only to go by what there computer tells them what is left on my ins. company cap amount remaining. This amount on there computer was wrong. There policy is TO NOT CALL THE INS. COMPANY and talk with them. My ins. company called them and they refused the predetermination over the phone. Bottom line, I would have paid $140.00 more from my pocket at time of surgery and it would have taken 60 days or more to receive my money back. Also, there are other surgens in the area that do charge less. Now, I would have paid my real amount due at time of service, but it was not the correct amount, it was more. It took over 30 days to get the predetermination in the mail and YES IT WAS $140.00 LESS THAN WHAT I WOULD HAVE PAID. My advice is to go to a DR. that will allow there business to call the ins. company and talk to a PERSON, not go by what a computer states. Also, the business dept. would not allow me to talk to DR. Stakem about this problem. I just wanted to let him know that computers are not always right, just call the ins. company. Remember, the ins. comp. and the patient is paying you!
