My parents took me to David Shapter over 10 years ago, and it was the last time I went to a dentist. I remember him not allowing my parents to accompany me and he immediately had the nurses hold me down throughout my first procedure. This same thing happened the next few times I saw him. The visits were some of the most traumatizing experiences of my life, and the thought of going back to a dentist was completely out of the question since then. After reading reviews, I'm relieved to learn I just experienced one of the most incompetent dentists in the Erie area growing up. If you want your children to avoid going to the dentist out of extreme fear in the future, this is the place to go. This guy obviously has some sort of ego issues and it's absolutely astonishing that he is still in business.

We have since obtained private dental insurance and left his practice, but when seeing him we had Medicaid. He is extremely patronizing, and has the worst bedside manner I have ever witnessed. My daughter had GERD and esophageal reflux, she needed a dental procedure. I was treated like a child, any Medicaid patients are forced to watch a video and have a meeting in the waiting room in front of other patients, including what procedures your child is having. He was extremely rude to me, and disrepectful. He also yelled at me in front of my child and read the back of a toothpaste bottle to me aloud in a very condescending manner. We switched dentists and I have never been happier, I haven't been there in a few years but I feel compelled to save other folks the trouble. My daughter was terrified of the dentist when I took her to another place, he was awful and caused her and I a great deal of anxiety.

He has extremely poor social skills with parents and also children, he was very argumentative and hostile, he tried to insult my daughter and also myself forgetting that this child is only 5 years old and is witnessing everything they are doing while being strapped to the chair. As a father he wanted me to feel very small because the nurses said that she was asking for me and i walked in on him berating my daughter and once he seen me he kinda lost it and even telling his nurses to close the door and after he was finished he approached me asking me if i had a problem. I will be looking for another dentist for my daughters after this visit

I took my 2 year old daughter to her first dentist apt on Tuesday April 21,2015. Most of the staff was GREAT! When the Dentist came in, his nurse said to me "the dr will come in and talk to Layla (my daughter) and joke with her. Just let him talk" ok...seems normal enough. When my daughter started crying when he insisted she was held down by the nurse instead of me I put my hand on my daughter and told her "it's ok, he's just counting your teeth, 123,123) HE then tells me to stop talking so she can listen to him. I was quiet because I wanted my daughter to get her teeth checked. When I thought he was done, she was still crying, so I told her "it's OK baby, he is all done" at this point he ripped his mask off, and stormed away telling the nurse "I am done! You deal with her!" He walked about 5 feet away and I asked why? I was just trying to comfort her, she was scared. And he yelled at me saying "he's not mad at her," and "she was not afraid of him, she was afraid of the tool" After he left, I told the nurse that it was unacceptable and she agreed and got the manager, The manager freely admitted that they often have this problem and when I asked to file a complaint, she said she would handle it. I insisted on writing it down and I insisted on having HER bosses number so I could go above them in she refused. While walking out the nurses apologized and said this happens all the time!

About Hygienist: The poor girls that work there are so sweet and seem to be afraid of him. This was my 2nd visit and the 1st time i spelled his name wrong (not on purpose) and he yelled at his nurse and said she should have caught it! Even though it was a paper for my daughters school and she never seen it!

My grandchild received services here and the service was horrible. The child is 4 years old and like most 4 year olds they are uncomfortable with seeing a dentist. Dr. Shapter yelled at the child when they cried saying "you cry so loud. I bet you cry all the time at home and then he put his hand over the child's mouth. My daughter was done after that episode. I wish she would have read the review's. This guy should be put out of business.

Shapter may be the most hostile man I've ever met. He is a short guy and it shows. He has immense ego problems and it comes out as anger and contempt for his patents and their parents.

Bedside manner, Parent communication, etc all negative. He is an utter jerk. My cild being disabled and on state aid made the visits much worse. I do not reccomend this one.
