I'm not here to defend Dr. Grossman. I was just browsing through this website (which I think is a great resource) and wanted to make some comments. As a general dentist myself, I have seen my share of young patients. Some kids are really well behaved during dental procedures, with or without the parent. Others "act up" in the presence of the parent in order to be "rescued" from a stressful situation (being in the chair !). It is understandable for this lady to want to be "there" for her kid, but the presence of the parent can worsen the situation. Questions from the parent like : "Does it hurt, baby?" or "How many shots are you giving?" can ruin an otherwise good experience. When the parent is there, the kid tends to pay more attention to the parent's fear/worry and bad instructions, instead of focusing on the instructions from the dental team. If your kid needed surgery, do you think the surgeon would let you in the operating room? Would you be suspicious if the surgeon didn't ? By the way, the letter "S" in DDS stands for "SURGERY". Like Dr. Grossman, I also prefer not to have parents in the treatment room, and the majority of my young patients have a happy outcome (no tears or fears). = )

My ex took our 10 yr old daughter to this person at the N Martin Luther King Dr location and after his exam he informed my ex that she needed to return for 2 cavities to be filled.Upon the return visit to have them filled,he would not let my ex in the room with our daughter even for the shot of novacain. How fishy is that? After the visit, he informed my ex that she needed to be seen again for more work(although the 2nd visit was suppose to take care of the 2 cavities he found origionally and be the last visit) so my ex took her in again after I confronted him re: his no parents rule, and he allowed my ex in the room for the shot only. After this visit, he informed my ex that our girl had to be seen yet AGAIN, so I went in this time.I got there and they informed me that I was not allowed in with my daughter(not even for the shot)and also that she would need to be seen yet AGAIN after this visit and that I needed to make another appointment before I left. So I did just that, but the appointment is with a new dentist who doesnt have warped issues with a child's parent being in the room. Before she got in the chair I took my daughter and business elswhere.IMHO, something is just not right about this guy! Staff is friendly though!
