At first I was very impressed. All the equip. seemed to be the latest and greatest and the view is kind of nice, even though the rest of the place is kind of sterile. There was an initial consult and he even voice recorded his comments and wrote a summary of my oral health. Norma Jean quickly grated on my nerves, she called me at work all of the time instead of calling my cell and leaving a message. She would leave messages for me with coworkers (we do not have secretaries)...really NOT ok, and she is very fakey nice, but I kept going because I thought it was the dentist that mattered. At the beginning. they seemed very out in the open about my care, but it got to the point where they wouldn't even tell me which tooth there was an issue with. They would say general things like oh a back tooth or the upper right side, but not specifically which tooth. One appointment my teeth would be great, the next time, I would come back and all of a sudden I had developed two cavities that, actually, they had been tracking all along. They are not upfront about cost. NJ offers to plug in your ins. plan and then there is always another bill, b/c she didn't figure it right. I Do NOT Recommend at all.

We live in the East Bay but we come to San Francisco because of Dr. Parrett and his great staff. They are warm and caring and thorough in evaluating dental problems and identifying solutions. Now, my husband and two teenagers go to him. The hygienists and office staff including Norma Jean are terrific. They seem far more competent on insurance matters than most other offices. They work to accomodate our schedules. Best dentist we've seen in years.

I have been to three different dentists in the area and he is the best I have I ever seen. The Hygentists are fabulous and I love gettting my teeth cleaned . The staff is friendly and professional as well as talented. I woulod recommend them for cleaning or any tooth related treatment you are needing.

I have very mixed reviews of this dentist. Medically, Dr. Parrett and the staff are very professional. The procedures were for the most part painless and the follow up was good. However the office was very pushy about getting extensive work done on my teeth. I was facing a very serious surgery and I felt I did not have much choice on getting the work done. I look to dentists like doctors to be ethical about these matters, not simply line their wallets. If he said I needed this work done I figured it was probably true. Due to the timing of the surgery I did not have time to seek a second opinion. I wonder now how much of my dental work was truly necessary and how much was pure profit for the office. I was misled about how much my dental work was going to cost. The office assured me that my part of the bill would be up front. I paid this. Since I had another surgery to worry about financially this was very important. I came home from my surgery to find another whooping bill from Parret'ts office. They claimed it was my insurance. On further research I discovered they knew or should have known how much was going to be covered. If you don't like financial surprises this might not be the best choice.

First impression of Dr. Parrett was very good. My first exam/cleaning concluded with a 3-4 page comprehensive write-up mailed to me, outlying the good and the bad of every tooth in my mouth. Very nice. I saw a couple of his hygentists over the course of about 3-4 years. Very professional, competent and nice people. I only remember one name, Donna, she was the best. One time I headed in for my cleaning around 12:50p or some weird time like that, I saw Dr. Parrett exiting the building and heading into the sandwich shop next door, thinking he'd be back soon to check on me when the cleaning was done. But when that time came, I was told "he was out to lunch." That's unacceptable. Don't schedule appts if you can't make them, Doc. Last straw is when I came in for a cleaning and was told I "owed $5 from my last cleaning." No reason given. Seemed weird since my insurance covers cleanings 100%. Whatever, I paid it. Later, I got a bill for $13. I called and was told that Dr. Parrett stopped carrying my insurance last year and I was never told. That's why I owed $5. Then he raised his rates (also never told) and that's why the next one was $13. And the woman at the front desk handling the billing is rude and awful. Cya doc.

Dr. Parret is kind and easygoing, very responsive if more anesthesia is needed. He is thorough and does great work. Hygenists are gentle and take an educational stance--they have made suggestions that make it easy to be meticulous with my dental hygeine. Front desk staff has been great.

The faciities are fine with video monitor which is neat; Dr. Parrett isn't very pleasant and the receptionist wasn't very helpful regarding submission to insurance. In fact, I ended up having to pay out-of-pocket when Dr. Parrett was suddenly no longer part of my HMO (which Dr. Parrett didn't notify me about). He charged $150 for a very brief check-up. Also, the parking is a pain and expensive in that area.

I have been Dr Parretts patient for a few years. Initially he looked professional to me, though he himself never worked on any of my teeth. Sometimes he just took a very quick look at my teeth (30 seconds) after the cleaning by the assistant, but I still got the bill for both cleaning and examination. His fee is higher than average in the area so that I have to pay out-of-pocket. A few times he referred me to some specialists and they were awfully expensive too. I did my own research and every time I find better offices myself. The accounting in his office is a mess. Sometimes they missed sending claims to my insurance, sometimes they sent claims to a wrong address (even after I reminded them), etc. If I hadnt checked my statement carefully, I would have to pay the balance myself. Since last year I started thinking to change my dentist because of all these. I am tired of after each cleaning, you dont know if they are going to send the claims to the right place, and you have to follow up on it.
