I had a cosmetic issue with a front tooth that I wanted the doctor's opinion on. I saw him on TV offering a simple solution to receeding gums and thought that might be just what I needed. However, when I went to Yelp there was a bunch of negative stuff about him being "all about the money" and "recommending unnecessary procedures". Only Angie's list was saying positive things about him. So I followed Angie and booked my appointment and am so glad I did! His staff did an excellent job of reviewing my medical history in detail - the best I have experienced in any medical office I ever visited even my cardiologist! When Dr Chao looked at my condition he recommended I leave it alone as the costs would outweigh the benefits and that it was not medically necessary. This was very refreshing and certainly proves Yelp was in error and Angie was right. I will DEFINITELY go back to Dr Chao in the future.

Dr. Chao did my dental work, which was OK, but left my teeth super sensitive. While he worked on my crown, he chipped another tooth and claimed that it was already damaged and I had to pay more than a thousand for him to fix it. This doctor is out to get your money, beware. I don't have insurance so he drained all of my savings. The hygienist is very nice and good with her work

Dr. Chao is the best dentist I have ever been to. He is top in the field, very concerned about my well being, has a solution for every problem, uses the latest technology and procedures -- all of his staff are exceptionally professional and personable -- my dental health matters to them all.

About Hygienist: Sarah has been my saviour in keeping my teeth -- I believe she is one of the best in the field, so knowledgeable and effective. I trust her advise completely and it has achieved amazing results.

Dr. Chao and his staff are very professional and courteous. He is to the best of my knowledge, up-to-date with all of the current therapy options and can offer a wide range of treatments. He personally takes the time to consult you on your options with or without insurance. However, he is rather expensive, and at the same time, he is not a member of any dental insurance provider list that I know of. If you're hoping to use your dental insurance with him, you might have to pay more of a copay. Otherwise, he is a knowledgeable dentist that is very professional and thorough.

I went to Dr. Chao for a consultation for a calcified root canal. He made me wait for 1 and 1/2 hours before he even saw me, and would not give me a price on the work I needed. I basically wasted my time to go get my question answered. I went to a great Endodontist in San Marino and got it done. The dentist who did it never saw me before and gave me a direct price over the phone and stuck by it. Whereas Dr. Chao wouldn't even quote me a price. I later found out Dr. Chao would have charged me $1500-$2500.00 for the work I got done for $995.00. I would not recommend Dr. Chao at all.

Dr. Chao did a very extensive examination and then charged me $3500 for what turned out to be, basically, a lot of tooth cleaning. In the meantime, I had very extensive problems including persistent infection which eventually required oral surgery and an extraction. Dr. Chao lead me to believe that spending all of this money for tooth cleaning (root planing performed by a dental hygienist) would resolve wobbly teeth and a lot of other problems. It didn't. I don't think he caused any harm he just charged me a lot of money for a treatment that was near certain to be ineffective. I left with the feeling that he is mostly interested in making money and not much interested in actually correcting or preventing problems.
