When I first went to Dr Stephenson everything was the way all the good recommendations mention - nice, no pain, caring. Then i never saw her again, only her associates. They missed a dying tooth that I had said every time I went in was extremely sensitive to even room temperature water. I had to get a root canal for that. (they showed me the xray from 2 years ago trying to show the difference in the root and the look on the dentist's face when it was the same was priceless but not the good kind). I too all of a sudden was upsold and treatments were recommended even before what was planned was finished. One of the crowns I had done failed w/in 4 years. My new dentist said it may not have been put on correctly but wouldn't absolutely confirm that of cours. Being an avid flosser and sonicare user there was no sign of me not cleaning properly. I have 10+ year old crowns in my mouth! They were very attentive to pain though and I extremely appreciate that. In the end, they lost their humanity and only saw dollar signs.

Generally a very nice person and she really strives to make the experience as enjoyable as a dental cleaning/procedure can be! I do feel like she tends to oversell procedures and more expensive treatments, e.g. porcelain fillings, which are insanely expensive, $1000, and not covered by my insurance. I have also felt like she has noticed the need for more fillings than any of my previous dentists ever have. I seem to need something every time I go in for a cleaning. On a positive note my porcelain veneer on my front tooth looks much better than veneers I've seen on other people, it's barely noticeable.

I've been a patient of Dr. Stephenson for the last 8 years and have always found her staff to be very friendly and helpful. Most recently I had a very old crown that needed to be replaced and included getting a root canal. Dr. Djee an associate of Dr. Stephenson took me to the floor where my root canal dentist was located so I could get my treated started a soon as possible. The whole procedure was a great success!

I must have been one of Dr. Stephenson's first patients, when she started practicing in San Francisco many years ago and I still would not use any other dentist, although she is not exactly the most economical choice. Her office is equipped with the latest medical equipment, very tastefully appointed and fastidiously clean. It is run very efficiently, one never has to wait for scheduled appointment in the waiting room. Dr. Stephenson herself is very gentle, always concerned about not causing unnecessary pain, she communicates well and explains clearly all procedures before they are performed. She always followed up with a phone call after a major procedure has been performed, inquiring about the healing process. Over the years Dr. Stephenson not only restored my teeth to health, but make them look beautiful through bleaching and the use of cosmetic veneers. She understands that dentistry is not only medical procedure but also the most important way to enhance one's looks. On her recommendation I had undergone implant surgery by Dr. Bedrossian, Dr. Stephenson performed all the follow up work. I can hardly be happier with the results, today I cannot tell the difference between my natural teeth and the implan

I have been Dr. Stephenson's patient since 2000, when my orthodontist referred me to her. She is professional, friendly and caring. Her receptionists make you feel right at home and her office staffs the best dental hygienists. What really makes her stand out among dentists is that she encourages good dental health to minimize problems rather than just drilling away at your teeth. She does not encourage cosmetic procedures, only provides information if asked. The only downside is that my insurance company does not cover her, so I pay out of pocket for all my procedures. I have recommended 4 people to her, all of whom are now happy patients of Dr. Stephenson's. The person who complained about their experience was either trippin' or fibbin'.

Dr. Stephenson has been my dentist for a few years. I think that she has been technically very competent in each of my precedures (replacement bad fillings etc), but the only warning I have is that sometimes you feel that she is upselling you on procedures that might be "nice to haves" (like whitening treatments, or replacing silver fillings for composite), but not completely necessary for a healthy mouth. If you are confident in what you want and don't want, and explain your goals and priorities clearly, you shouldn't have a problem. You need to remember, like any other business, dentists are there to make money. Buyer Beware.

I was referred to Cynthia by my dentist in LA when I moved up here - she was his star student at UCLA. If it's up to me, I will never change dentists again...and I'll travel from anywhere on the planet if necessary. She ensures comfort during treatment, and gives you her cell phone number to make sure you can call day or night with questions. No one comes close. As for the other reviewer who complained - I understand...you don't want her to be too popular, or you won't be able to get in anymore! Makes perfect sense to me...

Dr. Stephenson's state of the art office immediately made me feel comfortable with whom I was going to have work on my teeth, but it was her demeanor and expertise that won me over from my long-trusted but completely outdated dentist. I left a "society pages" dentist to try Dr. Stephenson, not knowing what to expect, but it was immediately apparent that she used the latest procedures and was able to craft cosmetic implants and picture perfect molds for crowns. Being the child with bad teeth and a sadistic dentist who didn't use novocaine, I don't trust anyone working in my mouth, but Dr. Stephenson's goal is pain free dentistry...she even massages your forehead when she sees that you're stressed or concerned during her drilling. I honestly can't imagine that the prior reviewer had the same dentist as I did because they're mirror images. However, let me end by saying that when you have a complicated procedure, Dr. Stephenson calls you that night to check in and make sure you are okay, and she leaves her cell phone number with you in case of emergencies. Enough said. I'm a convert.

Dr. Stephenson is very nice, but don't let her anywhere near your teeth! Both fillings she did on my teeth were so bad that a professor at UCSF asked me who had messed up my teeth. I would have sued, but she is so nice that I was sure she hadn't meant any harm. Maybe her work has improved in the last five years, but it's not worth the risk, in my opinion.
