I went to Dr Tran for several years for routine cleanings; fillings; a veneer; & an implant. I chose Dr. Tran bc he accepts Medi-Cal, which is good. The Medi-Cal reimbursement rate is so low, most doctors & dentists won't accept Medi-Cal patients. At the time, they only got $20 for an office visit. My vet gets more than that. I'd give him five stars just for expanding poor people's access to dental care. And he's a Cal grad. Go Bears!
I also like that Dr Tran gave me gas. My front teeth were knocked out in a car accident & I'm super nervous about anyone touching my teeth. The gas *really* helped. While seeing Dr Tran, I was assaulted by a stranger who hit me in the mouth & one of my upper front teeth turned black. Dr. Tran did a veneer to fix that. Years later, the gums around the veneered tooth began to recede. You can see the post now. My current dentist told me that happens sometimes, but still. Also I had a gap in my front teeth that's on the side now & bigger. Not happy abt that.
Several years later, I ended up losing one of my back teeth that Dr. Tran filled. He didn't get all of the cavity then put a crown over it. My tooth literally rotted out under the filling & had to get pulled
About Front Desk: When I was a patient of Dr Tran, an older white woman was his receptionist. She seemed pleasant enough until the check I wrote them bounced. She was just rude. It was embarrassing. And I didn't do it on purpose FFS! Bad math figuring out my account balance :) She would not let me write a replacement check, so I paid cash. Later on, she sent me a statement & the payment wasn't there. Fought with them for months over this. Ended up switching dentists bc of it. It was reported it to the credit bureaus, so it lowered my credit score for years. Finally I contested it with the credit bureaus & it was removed. They had no documentation to support their claim that I owed them money.

I recently went to see Dr. Tran. The very first time I came into his office I was experncing severe pain with no medical insurance. I just had my son and also just lost my job. Dr. Tran took an x-ray and didnt charge me due to my financial situatiion. He is very kind and sincere. When I returned to Dr. Trans office on 9/18/2008 after not seeing a dentist in two years we had quite a bit of cavaties. I would refer anyone and everyone to Dr.Tran he did a great job smoothing my teeth. He also excepts Med-Cal insurance.
About Hygienist: I got 3 of mymany cavities filled. Noninvasive procedure they were small. I was relaxed, and customer service from the staff was great.

Overall Dr. Tran is not consistent in pricing. Also be careful when he is injecting you, he tend to slightly hurt when injecting. Humor is a bit off the wall.

He treats two patients at the same time and he uses the same glove. If you don't want your tooth to be filled again don't go to him.

Dr. Tran is a good dentist and very fair. He let me know what all my options were and how I could go about getting the best deal, even if it meant not going through him. I would recommend him to anyone.

Dr. Tran is very friendly and his chair-side manners are good. However, in the past he has juggled sometimes two or more patients while treating my teeth and it makes me feel nervous. He runs in and out of my room to put a fix on another patient's teeth then comes back to put a fix on mine. Sometimes I worry he might mix us up and start drilling into the wrong tooth. I realize that dentists are under alot of pressure to see lots of patients but as a scientist myself I know that no human being can do quality work when you are doing multiple procedures at a time. This is my main critique of Dr. Tran.

After my initial cleaning at Dr. Tran's office, the dental hygienist Roger said I had a few cavities. Then Dr. Tran came into the room, looked at my x-rays, and told me I had 10 cavities. I saw Roger give him a funny look. We made appointments to drill all of the cavities, & he drilled the first 3 before I ran out of insurance money. I went for a 2nd opinion to Dr. George Oldenbourg, who told me I had 2 cavities. They said they had another girl in that week who was also told she had 10+ cavities, but Dr. Oldenbourg's office only found 2. I was upset and felt violated that Dr. Tran drilled into my front teeth when it potentially wasn't necessary and likely just to get as much insurance money as he could.

Dr. Tran is personable, welcoming, accommodating and he takes a personal interest in his patients. My 1st child, my husband and I have been seeing him for about 5 years now and I will soon be taking my 1 year old in. I recommend him any time I get the chance. I don't know about his prices.

I arrived a little late, so I felt like the appointment was a little rushed. The cleaning and inspection seemed to go well. I have been scheduled to have some fillings, but I can't comment on those yet.
