I was a patient for over 20 years. In that time, I developed periodontal disease that went untreated. Another dentist referred to it as supervised neglect. In all, it cost about $30,000 to restore my teeth (which included having braces) and gums back to a healthy state. All of the work that he performed, has been redone by another dentist.
