I think Dr. Wicks is a very good dentist but he missed a cavity that I had that was urgent. He saw it, and said, go to the periodontist first.
So I did - but within two weeks I had terrible toothache from the cavity and ended up losing the tooth.
So it's all very well to send patients to a periodontist, but please make sure they are OK first.
