I was going to Dr. Cousins for some time, but after a change in office manager, my experience went downhill. Keep in mind, Dr. Cousins as a dentist is great. She's sweet and answers questions. But that's half the trip. The other half is the bill you receive. Her office manager, Lacey, pays NO attention to billing. I was overcharged by nearly $200. Not one to just pay a bill without questioning, I called my insurance provider and they told me that I was charged some things that are inclusive in a filling. Additionally, Lacey forgot to include that I had already paid for a specific bill. I was sent a bill from the office saying a late fee was charged. I called and spoke to Lacey explaining that I was in the process of corresponding w/ my insurance company to understand what they covered, what they didn't, etc. All she kept saying was "THIS IS YOUR BALANCE. IF IT IS NOT PAID, YOU WILL BE CHARGED A LATE FEE AGAIN." This was despite me saying "I paid 20% when I got the procedures, and my insurance company is paying 80%; however, I want to understand why certain things aren't covered so I've requested my benefits coverage" and Lacey just kept repeating "This is your balance. If it is not paid..." So, I told her that I understood she was

About Hygienist: doing her job and it's unfortunate the dentist office is caught up as I try to understand my insurance coverage. I asked her to put a halt on the late fee because I was in constant communication with the dentist office and was working on the matter. She was vehemently opposed to this saying that it's a computer that automatically puts the late fees for all patients. I said, okay I'd like to speak to the person who can hear me out and work to put a halt on this late fee. She said she was the person. It was after I cried on the phone for 20 minutes explaining to her that I'm trying my best to pay this and I don't want my credit ruined that she said she would take off the late fee for one month but not in the future. Came back to haunt her because I had my insurance company go line by line and they found that I was erroneously charged for things that were inclusive, in addition to the fact that Lacey NEVER subtracted the amounts I had paid. I called her and told her that my payments had not been subtracted from my balance owed and she said she had no recollection I had paid during a certain visit. I had to take a day off work, go in with the receipt and she removed it from my balance. She didn't once apologize even when I asked if it was an error I made. She said she had no idea why it didn't show up. Here's the straw that breaks the camel's back and the precise reason I discourage anyone from going to this dentist office--I asked to speak to the dentist to explain what had happened and how she should be aware of the faulty charges and mishandling. I was told the dentist doesn't speak to patients and I mentioned that don't patients have rights to speak to their specialist? She told me that patients ask her the question, she relays it to the dentist and people deal with her. So, I gave her my phone number and told her I'd like the dentist to call me. She said okay, but I can't make promises. I walked out to get lunch and came back to leave my work number. When I asked her for the paper where I left my number, she went to another room and came back five minutes later with a different paper with my number scribbled on it. She had clearly disposed of the paper. Like I said before--the dentist is great, but you have to be aware of your billing and conscientious of the charges. Lacey certainly takes advantage of innocence. Ps, as per various insurance companies--dentists are supposed to call the insurance provider to find out what is covered in a plan--this office DOES NOT. So, do your homework before going.
