I have had standard cleanings and some fillings from Dr. Hata. She is a competent dentist, but does not have a good bedside manner. During procedures, she did explain the work to be done, or give any progress reports during the work itself. When things have gone wrong in the past, she has even left me to tend to other patients, or simply proceeded without providing an update. For cleanings, totally acceptable, but not the most gentle or good at making me feel comfortable. Seemed distracted. I am not sure how they book the office, but Dr. Hata works with Dr. Grant Tsuji, and they always seem to be fully booked. It may simply be that because they don't have any openings in their schedule that they are constantly pressed to get people out the door, rather than take time for explaining things, or working in a more pain-free mode. My job has moved, so I'm going to start looking for a new dentist. I guess overall if they were really convenient to me, I might stay with this office and wonder if there is better out there. Based on the reviews I'm reading though, I should've started looking for alternatives a while ago - East Bay seems to have some much loved dentists!
