Dr. Arakawa has been my dentist since 1987, when I first moved to the area at the ripe age of six. I didn't realize how good I had it until I went to college and started looking for a local dentist there. After 3 bad experiences, I had had enough: From then on, I returned to Palo Alto for my dental appointments. He is not the cheapest, but on par for Palo Alto.
I never had anything truly complicated done with Dr. Arakawa. But I do have a few stories: When I was 10, I chipped a tooth. He put a composite filling on the remaining root of tooth, and shaped it to look like it's kin. I had to come back a few times for this treatment, because the front (restored) tooth was very thin. In the end he got it, however, and the composite has remained trouble-free for 15 years since.
During my bad dental experiences at college, I had a filling done in an astonishing environment of incompetence. The end result was painful and problematic -- I could not floss between the teeth. Dr. Arakawa redid the filling without event, and it has remained problem-free since.
Douglas's staff are universally friendly and helpful. Every hygenist is knowledgeable and terribly friendly. And his secretarial staff can cut through insurance bureaucracy like butter.
