I went to Dr Van Orman for the first time back in July 2013 as I was new to the area. I have never had dental issues, I've been to several dentists in my life as I've lived in many cities and I take good care of my teeth. I've only had maybe 4 or 5 cavities in my lifetime but when I went to Dr Van Orman, he said I had 9 cavities, needed to replace all of my fillings, needed several caps, and recommended a cosmetic change for my top teeth (he said I have an inverted smile). No dentist has ever recommended these things to me nor said that I had this many cavities. I asked Dr Van Orman's assistant, Renee, for my Xrays and I sent them as well as the recommendations to two other offices that came highly recommended to me by friends and family (these offices were not even in my area so they did not need my business) They both said that I was being ripped off. None of the cavities needed changing unless all of those teeth were cracked (which they are not) and no caps were needed. I wouldn't say avoid Dr Van Orman, but if he recommends an inordinate amount of work, and if you don't want to give someone like this your business, then I would stay away.
