Dr. Carlson left my braces on too long, and as a result I will lose 4 and probably 5 of my front, bottom teeth. He tried to tip these teeth, but my dentist said I have a prognathous jaw, and the teeth were not going to move. As a result of a number of years of braces with rubber bands and head gear, the roots of the four front, bottom teeth resorbed. Dr. Carlson did not tell me about the resorbtion. My dentist did. My dentist sucked in in breath in alarm and surprise when he saw the x-rays, and saw I had virtually no root structure in those four teeth any more. In my opinion, Dr. Carlson runs an assembly line operation. He has too many patients in chairs at the same time, and depends on his assistants to do most of the work. It seems to me that he is too busy trying to pay overhead and make money. I think he needs to slow down, reduce his expenses, and work more conscienciously. In his favor, he seems to have a lot of confidence, is very gregarious, and had good rapport with his patients. Also, his staff seems to be top notch. I am going to need at least 3 implants, one crown and a bridge of 4 teeth. This will cost will be at least $10,000.

I have a cleft palate which created a gap in my upper gum line (and I was missing a tooth), but you wouldn't know it today if you see me. I'm a long-time patient of Dr. Carlson, who is a periodontist and orthodontist. Under his care I completed 5 years of braces, 2 implants, and 3 gum graphs, all VERY successful. He expanded my upper arch (which was collapsed), and stabilized it with a bone graph and dental implant where I was missing a tooth due to the gap from my cleft. My gum line is significantly improved and now looks natural. My bite is now normal, and my mouth no longer looks disfigured. My implants and gum graph procedures were all pain-free. Dr. C. is a master at pain management, and everyone in his office is top-notch. Dr. C. and his staff took care of the insurance paperwork for me, and helped me obtain a favorable decision from my ins. co. which covered a significant amount of my care. I can say from personal experience that treatment for a cleft palate requires a lot of trips to many different specialists, but is a worthwhile investment. My treatment at Dr. Carson's office is the best dental care I have ever received. I highly recommend Dr. Carlson, especially if you have a cleft palate.
