I have a cleft palate which created a gap in my upper gum line (and I was missing a tooth), but you wouldn't know it today if you see me.
I'm a long-time patient of Dr. Carlson, who is a periodontist and orthodontist. Under his care I completed 5 years of braces, 2 implants, and 3 gum graphs, all VERY successful.
He expanded my upper arch (which was collapsed), and stabilized it with a bone graph and dental implant where I was missing a tooth due to the gap from my cleft. My gum line is significantly improved and now looks natural. My bite is now normal, and my mouth no longer looks disfigured.
My implants and gum graph procedures were all pain-free. Dr. C. is a master at pain management, and everyone in his office is top-notch.
Dr. C. and his staff took care of the insurance paperwork for me, and helped me obtain a favorable decision from my ins. co. which covered a significant amount of my care.
I can say from personal experience that treatment for a cleft palate requires a lot of trips to many different specialists, but is a worthwhile investment. My treatment at Dr. Carson's office is the best dental care I have ever received.
I highly recommend Dr. Carlson, especially if you have a cleft palate.
