Unfortunately, my surgeries with Dr. Wolford failed and I recently had surgery with another surgeon who found out what was going on. I am now pain free and have drastic improved range of jaw motion (from 12mm to 45mm). My new surgeon stated the prostheses Dr. Wolford put in was rotated laterally and was jammed. What upsets me the most about Dr. Wolford is he had many attempts to open up my joint to find out what was going on. Instead he wanted to blame my opening and pain on factitous disorder. Dr. Wolford sent me to the Environmental Center in Dallas which concluded I had metal sensitivities. In addition, he implanted prostheses testing metals into my arm in his office which had to be removed in the OR due to a severe reaction to the metals. I also had a metal testing done at Integrated Health in DC which confirmed metal sensitivity.. Despite all of this testing, he still wanted to say I had factitous disorder and the prostheses was fine. I had Mitek Anchor surgery in 2008 with Dr. Wolford that also failed due to resorption. Dr. Wolford at first tried to state all was okay with the Miteks until my local doctors pressed to have more xrays to confirm resorption. My jaw surgery with Dr. Wolford resulted in a relapse.

My procedures with Dr. Wolford failed. I ended up having to seek the care of another surgeon to correct his surgeries. Sugery to correct his mistakes were sucessful. I was informed that prostheses was put in incorrectly and he performed unnecessary surgeries. In addition, administrative practices of this office are unethical. His wife handles the accounting end of the practice. Found many suspicious claims on bill such as surgery codes I did not have. Furthermore, he fails to submit samples to Pathology for testing such as suspicious tissue, hardware, etc.

Very complicated TMJ implant failure. Wanted the best result possible - sought the best in the field. Dr. Wolford was out-of-plan and the cost was great, but the outcome was better than expected - some persistent pain but that is to be expected. His staff is excellent, his equipment and technique are state of the art. He WRITES the textbooks on TMJ. I HIGHLY recommend him to anyone needing top notch care.

Dr. Wolford was awesome, best bedside manner, interns were great. My surgery was 9 hrs long, originally expected to be 12 hrs, very little pain/discomfort. Biggest frustration was front desk/staff. My insurance paid, I prepaid aprox $10,000 (can't remember for sure-it's been 12 yrs) but was billed for another $6/8000. No one would discuss with me, why I owed so much more, when my surgery was 3 hrs less than predetermination. If I asked to speak to someone, Eve, front desk/office mgr would close the doors to insurance spec. etc. Financially it was a very stressful situation & caused many hours of grief and depression post-op. Took me at least 6 yrs to get over it & who knows how much money in counseling & treatment. Had 4 years ortho treatment before and a year after in which my top 6 teeth became loose. Dr. W suggested it was the ortho treatment after and ortho suggested it was the surgeon, but neither would discuss my situation,. I would choose him as a surgeon again, just wish his staff had been more considerate. I still have the same headaches and grinding that I had before the surgery, but I do not have the same tmj pain, however I take medications for that now and have lived a normal life after getting over the depression.

I had displaced discs and Dr. Wolford told me I needed TMJ implants called Mitek anchors otherwise my condition would get worse. He told me the surgery would give me a very good result. At the time I had some headaches and a bit of clicking in my joints. I got the implants and it was a huge mistake. I can't eat or talk properly, my joints lock and I am in constant pain and on contant pain killers. Since this surgery was done, no other doctors know what to do with me to help me. After my surgery didn't work out, his staff, (wife and mother-in-law) were not friendly or cooperative. Neither was Dr. Wolford. PLEASE get at least two second opinions before you consider any type of TMJ surgery.

Wonderful experience all around. Dr. Wolford is the best in his field and trains most of the other Dr.'s in Oral/Jaw Surgery. He has invented several successful techniques and surgeries himself.

Prior to meeting Dr. wolford almost 13 years ago, I had undergone 4 previous surgeries in 6 years and all with poor results. This was also in the 1980's and not alot was known at that time. When I came to Dr. wolford, I was unable to eat and quite ill. At that time implants were new and there was a hold on getting a device so he using my collarbones rebuilt both tmj joints. It has been 13 years and just now having problems so I will be returning to Texas as I am from New York to see the man that saved my life. His mother in law and staff were wonderful. Major fight with insurance company at that time but they covered most of my expenses.

God has definitely blessed Dr. Wolford. He did a miracle with my jaw. My jaw was completely deteriorated. Condyles were shot. His work actually improved my range of motion from 42mm to about 54-56mm opening. Cost aside, I really recommend Dr. Wolford.
