Dr. Pavlov is great and his office staff has traditionally been very helpful and friendly. He does most of his own cleanings (rather than having the dental assistant do them). However, he recently is spending less time at the office and has brought in another dentist as well as several new office staff and hygienists. The new folks are nice, but don't seem to be nearly as skilled or organized, so it's not as smooth a process to get treatments as it used to be. Also, they seem to recommend quite a few "extra treatments" that don't seem to be really necessary. They don't push hard for these, but you have to use your own better judgment about what you need and what's optional.

About Hygienist: Every time I go in there is a new hygienist working on me, so I can't give a specific recommendation.

This is literally the worst dentist I've ever been to. The front desk personal is even worse, and the most unaccommodating, incapable personal I ever had to deal with. I had a few fillings done, one of which bothered me for 2 weeks, at which point Dr. Pavlov was able to pop it right out. His second attempt on that tooth was marginally better, but I will see a new dentist about it now. Aside from him dropping metal pieces down my throat, drilling and then letting me wait for 30min to attend another patient, that's all there is to say about him. The front desk personal on the other hand refuses to give me electronic versions of my X-rays, and instead prints them out in thumbnail size. The software company that provides their software assured me that it is possible to export the images, which they claim it is not.

I have been a patient of Dr Pavlov for more than 10 years now and I won't go to any other dentist (and I tried a lot of different ones before I found him) He is the Best dentist for matching crowns to the color of your teeth so that they look natural, his office staff are great and he uses a digital image machine when taking images of your teeth so I feel much safer when the need arises for an x-ray. He was the first dentist that my youngest daughter didn't mind going to (she would end up crying at all the other dentist I had taken her to in her first 11 years of check-ups and fillings). He has always given me good advice on dental health and care and when my family and friends first go to him, he gives them thorough check up, suggests a recommended dental plan and then his office staff will break it down into steps that are affordable (a great help in this day and age of high medical costs!) I highly recommend him and his services.

he is a nice guy, and cares about his patients, however with the extremely high prices you would htink that his office would be a little nicer.

I would recommend Dr Pavlov to everybody. Aside from being highly professional he is also very honest which I appreciate a lot. My story begins with me coming into the office 2 hours prior to my appointment because I had an awful pain and was hoping that someone canceled the appointment and I could be seen earlier. Unfortunately, nobody canceled and it was actually lunch time. Dr. Pavlov was about to leave his office for lunch but after looking at me in pain, he invited me into the office and began the exam. I turned out to have a very complicated case. This is where many dentists would tell me that I had to remove the tooth and would charge me double for emergency or any other reason. However, Dr Pavlov explained all the options to me and said that removing the tooth would be the easiest but not the best option and I should think about consulting endodontist and saving the tooth. I payed $66 for everything including exam, several x-rays, and detailed consultation. I appreciated the honesty of Dr Pavlov and the fact that his decision was based on my best interest rather than his profits. He could remove my tooth and make some more money out of it. But instead he recommended what was best for me.

Very disappointing experience. Dr. Pavlov gave me an estimate for 8,000 dollars worth of work (after insurance!) and my husband a similar estimate, including a very expensive whitening treatment that we had never even discussed and premium fillings (because he doesn't bother with the less expensive ones)! All this in spite of the fact that we have been seeing a dentist regularly throughout our lives. Even though our insurance covered 100% of cleanings, he found a way to charge us a fee on top of that (all 3 of our family members had to pay this fee). My husband needed a crown - Dr. Pavlov put one on, but it fell off within a few days. Dr. P. was on vacation at the time and told him not to worry. He ended up having to take more time off work to get a second temporary because the original didn't fit anymore. It was such a bad experience that we opted to pay out of pocket to go elsewhere rather than subject ourselves to his treatment any more.

Overall wonderful dentist. Strongly recommened. Great location in the heart of La Jolla. Reception staff could definatly use some more training, but thankfully they are not the ones doing my dental work.

I only went for an initial exam and cleaning. I was a bit dissapointed with the cursory 3 minute cleaning by Dr. Pavlov (no hygenist on duty), but who knows, maybe that's all I needed. I was then pressured to get $1500 worth of whitening that I refused, and then suggested that I get 7 fillings, only one of which I know I need (by a previous dentist). I have not yet returned for treatment, and will seek a second oppinion before continuing to see Dr. Pavlov

I went in for a crown after my root canal. Dr. Pavlov was very professional and soothing, since I was very nervous about it. Because there was still a lot of tooth left, he told me I didn't need a crown and just filled the hole. What a pleasant surprise! He is very professional. I highly recommend him
