Dr. Benson is extremely thorough and takes his craft very seriously. I have lots or teeth issues (baby teeth, crowns, fillings, root canals) and Dr. Benson has generally been competent and efficient. There are times I think he may jump early on doing work such as crowns, but I think he is genuinely cautious. His staff is great.

After trying out several other dentists in the Berkeley area, we found Dr. Benson. My husband and I have both been very pleased with him and his staff. He explains things very well, and really motivates you to take care of your teeth. He also did a couple of fillings for me that seem great. His staff is also very nice. Appointments need to booked way ahead (especially for cleanings), but once you are there, you don't have to wait around. Highly recommended in all ways.

I've been going to Dr. Benson for several years. He has replaced crowns and fillings. He always takes time to explain his procedures including why he will choose one method over another. His hygienist, assistant, and office staff are all very helpful and extremely pleasant. The office and equipment are dated but well maintained. I have never had any issues with insurance processing. If you want TV screens on the ceiling, etc., he's not the dentist for you, but if quality work, full explanations, and no administrative hassles, give him a try.

I had the worst experience I've ever had at a Dentist's office with Dr. Benson. He replaced a routine composite filling for me, and afterwards I had intense pain throughout the entire right side of my jaw for weeks. He was rough and inattentive to my concerns. He also is not the dentist to go to if you would like composite fillings instead of amalgams. He makes it very clear that he does not like working with composites. I will never go back to him again.
