Very good in explaining what will happen and what needs to be done. Very engaging personality and does not talk down to you, and is very receptive to questions. Office staff always greets you by name, so you feel welcome and not simply someone who has an insurance card [or not]. Gives a discount for cash [10%] or check [5%]. I would recommend him very highly -- it's a hike from san diego, but I think he's worth it.

I know this doctor: 6 months

I have been to his office many times and was always treated with the utmost respect. His staff is very friendly and helpful. I have never had more then a ten minute wait, and Dr. Tawfilis is always careful and conscientious about pain and comfort.

When I was "hooked up" I informed the assistant four separate times as we waited for the dentist to arrive, that I was not experiencing any of the benefits of the nitrous. I gently asked her to check the tank and the dials. When the dentist arrived, I informed him that it was simply NOT WORKING and all I was experiencing was mere oxygen. He assured me that it was on. I told him again that I knew what nitrous felt like, and it was NOT working. I was brushed off, injected with the needle (heart pumping!) and was subjected to the worst head cranking of my life! This dentist was in a big hurry!! His instruments clanked against my other set of teeth and caused pain to be felt later. There was no way I was going back to this dentist for a follow-up!! I missed my appointment. Besides the principle of paying for something I did not receive, I think the California department of Managed Health Care should be informed that this neither this dentist or any staff gave directions for follow-up care. NONE. No verbal POSTOPERATIVE INSTRUCTIONS and no written POSTOPERATIVE INSTRUCTIONS. NOTHING!!!. I was incredulous, and brought my husband in to ask him to query doctor Tawfulis. He brushed us off because he was in a hurry. When a friend called that evening to see if I needed anything, I asked her to bring my a drink with a straw. She was shocked and asked if I was crazy. Her dentist made it clear to her after hler extraction that one Does NOT SPIT OR SUCK THROUGH A STRAW as it might promote bleeding and may dislodge the blood clot causing a dry socket. Yikes! I was stunned!
