Dr. Mathews is wonderful. He is extremely nice, professional, gentle and understanding. Although my teeth were in too bad of shape to get veneers at a price I could afford, he has always treated me with kindness and respect, and helped me with my decision to get dentures. I would reccomend him to all for any dental work needed. I don't know how he compares in price to other dentints. It's not like people hop from one dentist to another all the time. If I find a dentist I like, I stay with them. I do feel that all dental work is expensive - but what can we do? In my opinion, Dr. Dan Matthews is a great dentist, his office is very nice and his staff is super friendly. By the way, his office has moved to Bee Caves Road.

Dr. Matthews decided to sand down my teeth in order to adjust my bite pattern after a suspicion that I had TMJ problems. The night he did, I went home and my jaw started painfully clicking for the first time in my life. I called the office and let them know, and they said my teeth would adjust over time and the pain would go away. It got progressively worse. I waited months and came back to his office for three subsequent visits, each time sanding my teeth down even further, during which they continued to get worse and more painful with each sanding. Each time I came back he said they just weren't calibrated correctly, and the pain would go away if I just waited. The third and last time I came back to complain the dental assistant working on my teeth was in disagreement with the Doctor's approach to my problem, another sanding. He ended up sanding my teeth down so far that it created a major problem in my jaw functioning, and I am constantly having jaw problems that didn't exist prior to his care. I have to wear a retainer at night and can hopefully save up for some kind of cosmetic dentistry that lets my mouth close comfortably. Subsequent dentists have informed me that jaw calibration through sanding as treatment for TMJ is an outdated practice that never should have been performed, especially after the first time when it caused pain.
