I have been associated with this practice on and off for over 10 years... and there is not a more thorough and meticulous dentist in the Tidewater area. For Dr. Nottingham to take the time to explain in detail what he is doing... and why... and to personally handle his patients cleanings himself, is such an appreciated touch, and he runs his practice with the attitude that "if you want it done right, do it yourself". Last time I checked, there is not anyone better to do my dental hygiene then my dentist. This level of service sure beats those dentist that do a “drive by” after the dental hygienist has finished, and finds that area in my mouth that the hygienist may have missed. He also does his own impressions for crowns, and oral appliances used for sleep apnea. If something is not done to my satisfaction, the buck stops with him, and in that rare occasion that something isn't just right... I don't even have to ask him to correct it... His quality assurance demands nothing but the best, and that's what I get.

About Front Desk: I have never experienced anything but superb customer service from Amanda, the front desk staff, who initially told me today that the first available appointment might be mid to late September, which isn't bad for a dentist appointment, but did not work for my need. When I explained that I wore an oral device to sleep, that no longer functioned properly, Amanda rose above and beyond and told me at 11:45 this morning that if I could be there by 12:30 (45 minutes later), Dr. Nottingham would see me and begin the process of restoring my oral device. What that meant of course is that he and Sarah, his assistant, were giving up part of their lunch break to help me, the patient in need.

This practice is run like a circus-- anyone seeking quality dental care should avoid these people. I received a call the Friday before my Monday morning appointment to confirm I'd be there. I showed up on Monday morning and the secretary was unapologetically late. After 10 minutes of awkward silence sitting in the dark office, she rudely said the "necessary staff weren't going to make it in on time" and I wouldn't be seen that morning. They offered a next day appointment so I chalked it up to an honest mistake and that they'd go out of their way to make me feel like a valued patient. I was wrong. The next morning as I waited to be called back to see Nottingham, I politely asked the secretary what the out of pocket expense would be. She looked at me as if she'd never been asked that question and that she didn't know how to figure it out. She became frustrated when I wouldn't accept "I don't know" as an answer. She went back to the dental hygienist (I could hear their conversation), misrepresented the situation to her, which led the hygienist to loudly say, "Well if he doesn't like it then he can go somewhere else!!!!" (While cleaning another patient's teeth). I did go somewhere else and am glad I did. I'm still pinching myself in disbelief that this happened and that Nottingham still hasn't called to apologize on behalf of employees. I don't know what world these people are living in but trust me when I say you're better off keeping them out of yours.

Dr. Nottingham is most likely the best dentist in the entire world. He is extremely caring, considerate and the consumate professional. His fees are reasonable. He was my dentist first in 1980, and then again when I moved back to the area in 2003. I would recommend him most highly to anyone. His staff is also very kind and they function well as a team - whose primary concern is my dental health.

I have been going to Dr. Nottingham for about 28 years. I began seeing him when I was a child. I chose to remain with him when I got my own insurance. I moved about 40 minutes away in 1998 but still make the drive to see him. I am sure there are other great dentists I could go to that are closer. He is a wonderful man and excellent dentist. I trust his opinion. He is honest about what he is doing and the care he provides. I have had cavity work, night gauards, x-rays, and general cleanings. I recommend him to as many people as I can.

Dr Nottingham is intuitive and caring physician that clearly likes his job. He has state of the art equipment and preforms near painless procedures. I suffer Bruxism and clenching of the jaw during sleep. Although, I've used a "night guard" since I became patient. When I recently visited him for a routine check-up that should have taken under an hour. The condition of my teeth worried him to a point that he rebalanced his appointments to give me the time, 3 1/2 hours, he needed to repair my damaged teeth. Although he acknowledged it was a temporary "fix", Cosmetically they look better than they've looked in a long time. I look forward to him giving me that Hollywood smile. Always learning new ways to be a better Dentist

Dr. Nottingham and his staff are very personable and friendly. In addition to doing good work, usually with no waiting, his work is very good. I have been a client for 20 years and will continue to do so. His downtown office location makes it very convenient for people working downtown Norfolk to make a dental appointment without much disruption from their work schedules. I highly recommend.
