I only found out about this blog recently. 3 weeks before a Laforte Procedure 4 years ago he informed me I had to pay 16,000$ cash for plastic surgery attention to jaw at time of surgery not covered by Blue Cross. Completely ignored my calling him about a screw he placed at time of surgery working it's way out of place leaving a fistula within 3 weeks post-op. Although I called several times, didn't even personally speak to me but relayed message through his office staff. Officer manager told me he said "It's not my work" and telling me to contact my orthodontist. 4 weeks latter with massive oral infection I ended up going into SIRS during surgery for infection. There are numerous oral surgeons at world class hospitals in Boston who have teams required to perform this intricate surgery. When I think of how I let this man perform solo (with only aid of a NP) an 8 hour surgery on my jaw (not to mention I was well out of age of group standard for this surgery) I have only myself to blame. Dante had read a sign over gate as he descended into inferno. You would do well to read it also.

About Front Desk: Hired by Dr. Stephens, using his judgement. Do I have to say more. First his medical nurse assistant had a relationship with him I found (only an opinion) odd to say the least. His office manager can only be said to run flak for him.

I have been referred to Dr. Stephens for treatment of obstructive sleep apnea. My sleep physician says he is "the best" person to go to for oral surgery, specifically maxillomandibular advancement. Many other professionals have said the same. He appears to be very knowledgeable, but is EXTREMELY difficult to make an appointment with. Not all of the front desk staff is very nice, and they are not accommodating.

About Front Desk: Some of the front desk staff are nice, but others are not. It is not easy to schedule an appointment and phone calls are not returned in a timely manner (if at all).

Dr. Stephens is an example of the rare surgeon that is (1) at the absolute top of his field, (2) completely focused on his patients and (3) humble. A true 10 out of 10. The surgery involved moving the upper and lower jaws forward, in an effort to cure sleep apnea. This operation requires highly experienced and specialized surgeons, and can take up to 10 hours. In addition to effectively curing my debilitating sleep apnea, his care and devotion made the whole ordeal livable, and I cannot thank him enough for it. I recommend anyone looking to undertake complex, ortognatic surgery to get in touch with this physician. He is increasingly focused on sleep apnea these days, but appears to be interested in any cases where he can make a true difference in people's lives.

I certainly didn't appreciate Dr Stephen's. I've worked with dentists. While it's true he was at MGH (I;m a victim of ), he was forced to leave there. In fact, he isn't connected to any hospital (unusual for a surgeon); although through the back door at Mass Memorial (no privilege) patient's are farmed out to him in his private office in Framingham (if they have monies). He's definitely not that competent; you'll have to wait while he struggles hours to remove, piece by piece one molar! One satisfied customer, who thinks (s)he's seen a whole lot of dental work states ten years; for two implants and to remove three teeth and no problems! I spent $15,000 for nothing except a few visits and promises; I'm an extremely technically complicated patient (think beyond teeth-skeletal deformity-life threatening) created and courtesy of the three Boston dental schools. I didnt think his personality was anything special. He's a dentist. Patients whove been unlucky enough to end up extremely messed up know its all about money, working to correct their compatriots work. His office staff of comely young ladies are the worse trained in many decades of experience and equipment is lacking or outdated Beware

Extraordinarily competant oral surgeon. Dr. Stephens has to be one of the most experienced and skillful oral surgeons in New England, someone capable of competantly handling the most complex and difficult oral surgeries. Dr. Stephens spent years on the staff of MGH. That training and experience translates into an ability to make fast accurate diagnoses, to perform procedures successfully the first without complications, unnecessary pain or wasted time. In my case, Dr. Stephens has performed two dental implants and extracted three teeth over the course of a decade. Never had any complications nor any need for remedial work. Compared to the nightmares I had prevoious been put through with other oral surgeons (all of whom had impecable qualifications), Dr. Stephen's unflinching competance was a godsend! Dr. Stephens is also a nice, laid back guy with an easy manner. I would recommend Dr. Stephens to anyone needing competant oral surgery. Hard for me to imagine that anyone more skillful actually exists.

He was very pleasant and talented, but his office staff was less than competent. They have taken a very long time to expedite my procedure.

dr Stephens is the best doctor you'll ever meet. period. he completely restored my face, after i was shot in the face at point blank range and my face was destroyed. he operated on me at least 12-15 times and i am forever grateful to him. after all the bone and tissue grafts he even gave me an incredible deal on dental implants, because he knew i would not be able to go back to work for along time. dr Stephens peformed a miracle ,when at least 10 doctors told me there was nothing they could do, given devastating nature of my injuries. Dr Stephens an incredible doctor and a wonderful person
